Dear Loyal Readers and Freedom Riders,
What a thrill it is to pen these words once again for my Website Blog! After a brief pause, the swirling anticipation of typing this paragraph has me feeling like I’ve reunited with an old friend—our ink and paper fellowship reignited. Thank you for your patience and steadfast support during this time. This journey ahead promises to be nothing short of extraordinary.

You may recall our tantalizing hint from the January issue about an exciting, undisclosed location we had up our sleeve. The wait is finally over, and the secret is out: I’m reporting from Camp Arifjan, Kuwait! This piece of land in the Arabian Peninsula will serve as my home and work base for the next several months as I embark on an insightful journey, sharing the intricacies of life as a DoD Ammunition Inspector deployed in support of our brave warfighters.
Camp Arifjan is a hub of diverse military and civilian activity, teeming with stories waiting to be told. My dispatches will offer an authentic glimpse into day-to-day operations on the ground, where the unsung details of logistics play a vital role in global security. From inspections to ensuring ammunition safety, this role delves deep into the heart of what sustains peace in tumultuous times.
Speaking of Logistics. As I prepared for my journey to Kuwait, I encountered a series of challenges that tested my readiness and resilience. The process began with a thorough medical physical designed to assess my fitness and readiness for the assignment ahead. This comprehensive examination was essential in ensuring I was in optimal health for the new adventure, providing both assurance and a sense of seriousness about the journey I was undertaking.
Simultaneously, I navigated significant upheavals in my home life. Coordinating the storage of my household goods was a daunting task, requiring meticulous organization and planning. Every possession was carefully categorized and packed away, marking the first major step in severing ties with the familiar and embracing the unknown. This process not only tested my logistical skills but also my emotional preparedness as I bid farewell to the comforts and memories of my home.

Another formidable challenge was the preparation for a 2300-mile road trip to drop off my beloved cats, Bella and EmCee, with my mom in Ohio. Ensuring their safety and comfort during the journey was a top priority, as they ventured into new environments and routines. Planning the route, scheduling breaks, and managing the travel logistics added layers of complexity to my pre-departure preparations.
These challenges, from medical assessments to household upheavals and a cross-country animal journey, all contributed to a profound sense of transition. Each step required careful navigation and adaptation, reflecting both the excitement and the daunting nature of embarking on a new chapter in Kuwait.
With those challenges far behind me, I can now focus on the mission ahead and integrate myself into life here at Camp Arifjan!

But, dear readers, my experience won’t just be confined to the camp’s boundaries. Venturing beyond the gates, the vibrant culture of Kuwait awaits, promising experiences that range from the tantalizing aroma of local cuisines to the beautifully intricate patterns of traditional Kuwaiti craftsmanship. I’ll weave these narratives into a rich tapestry that highlights the stark yet fascinating contrast between life on and off the camp.
In future issues, anticipate vivid portrayals of daily routines and revelations about the camaraderie and challenges faced by those deployed. Expect tales of intrigue about Kuwait’s bustling souks, stunning desert landscapes, and the warmth of its people.
As I write from this crucial juncture, my intent is to capture moments that resonate, educate, and inspire. Join me each month to discover the unexpected and celebrate the extraordinary in the everyday.
Yours in discovery,
